The Tropical Entertainer
Client: Knight Avenue, Mt Albert
Year: 2024
The finished landscape is a highly functional and visually rich outdoor environment that connects seamlessly with the home’s living spaces.
Opening directly from the bifold doors, the garden now provides a vibrant extension of the home — ideal for entertaining, relaxing, and everyday outdoor living.
Green Gecko Gardens worked closely with the clients to continue and complete a landscaping vision originally started by the previous homeowner, transforming the space into a cohesive, functional, and tropical-inspired outdoor living area.
The focus of this project was to improve flow, define key garden zones, and create a vibrant entertaining space connected to the main living area.

Project Overview
The existing outdoor space lacked structure and flow, with disconnected elements and limited usable areas.
We began by removing an old concrete path and replacing it with decorative pebble zones, improving drainage and creating a softer, more natural feel throughout the garden.
A new hedge line was planted along the fence boundary, supported with fresh mulch to create a clean, low-maintenance edge that defines the space.
Reclaimed bricks from elsewhere in the garden were reused to form structured edging, adding continuity and reducing waste while enhancing overall design cohesion.
Custom pavers were installed in a layout specified by the clients, improving access to garden sheds and raised garden beds while maintaining a consistent flow through the space.
A tropical planting scheme was introduced along the boardwalk deck area, adding height, texture, and colour to soften the structure and create a lush garden atmosphere.
The BBQ area was constructed using paving with timber edging, forming a dedicated outdoor entertaining zone surrounded by planting and mulch for balance and visual warmth.
